Nicolette and her nanna are a perfect fit, just like the jigsaw puzzles they do together. Nicolette feels like she doesn't fit with anyone else, until a new boy at school called Leaf stands up to the class bully, DJ. When their teacher announces class assignment The Kindness Project, where students must come up with ways to make the world a kinder place, Nicolette is happy to be paired with Leaf but not so happy that the others in their group are DJ and popular girl Layla, who has made it her life's purpose to make Nicolette feel invisible.
