Pop vocal duo, and siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter not only created remarkable music together, they were also distinct in the fact that they enjoyed enormous success with their "soft rock" style during the 70's, an era where louder and more aggressive rock styles dominated the charts and the airwaves. Carpenters' melodic pop produced a record-breaking run of hit recordings in the "Top 40" and "Adult Contemporary charts worldwide, with the duo selling well over 100 million albums by the 1990's. One of the elements that made the music of the Carpenters distinctive was Karen's use of her low register. Through the deft arrangements of her keyboardist brother Richard, use of her "contralto" register was unique to the pop vocal genre at the time. It must be said that Karen possessed a unique vocal talent that spanned a three-octave range, which is rare in any vocal music genre! Our songs offers the best of the Carpenters performances during their formative years during the 1970's, and features them on stage performing their repertoire of top hits.
